Workshop linking science and industry launches second cycle of MSIC LabZero
On October 2, the practical workshop Bridging Science and Industry: Communicate with Impact will open the second round of the MSIC LabZero program. The Moravian-Silesian Innovation Center (MSIC) created this unique format to help students and researchers from regional universities transform their ideas and innovations into market applications. In addition to the workshop, the program includes an ideas exchange, Bootcamp, and Demo Day, all focused on building bridges between academia and industry.
The workshop will be led by Andrew Hladky of IP Lab Ventures, an investment company expert in strategy, mergers, and acquisitions across different sectors and regions.
“Participants will learn how to identify and approach industrial partners in various contexts—from negotiating contractual research agreements to exploring ways to showcase their work outside academia. They will also practice how to explain their research concisely and clearly in order to quickly attract potential partners. Together, they will identify relevant industry representatives and prepare personalized strategies for approaching them,” explained Pavlína Baranová from MSIC on behalf of the organizers.
The event will be held in English and is open to researchers and PhD students from VSB-TUO as well as other universities in the Moravian-Silesian Region. Participation is free of charge.
MSIC LabZero’s mission is to harness the synergy between researchers, businesses, and students. Organizers aim to link research teams and companies with motivated students who want to contribute to meaningful projects and co-create new innovations in the region. Students from all universities and colleges in the Moravian-Silesian Region can join the activities free of charge.
The initial workshop will be followed by Reverse Pitching, an idea-sharing event, on October 16.
“Researchers and companies will have the task of ‘selling’ their research or challenge to students, highlighting the areas where they could use extra help. Students, in turn, will choose a challenge and work on developing an innovation that can bring the idea to market,” added Baranová.
Student teams will further develop selected challenges during a Bootcamp taking place from November 7 to 9. Guided by business mentors, they will take part in a series of hands-on workshops. The result of the work will be a presentation of ideas, solutions, and innovations on Demo Day, November 27, held during the InnoVerse 2025 conference.
