Signal Lab welcomes two new research fellows

Signal Lab at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at VŠB-TUO has welcomed two prominent new research fellows. Researchers Sumika Chauhan and Govind Vashishtha have joined the lab from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, expanding the team of outstanding researchers working on the REFRESH project and its Industry 4.0 & Automotive Lab.

“I am very pleased to join REFRESH and become part of an inspiring research community in Ostrava. The project’s vision aligns perfectly with my professional focus on artificial intelligence and optimization algorithms. I am particularly looking forward to collaborating with the outstanding researchers at Signal Lab, developing innovative solutions based on artificial intelligence, and contributing to significant scientific progress in this new and stimulating environment,” said Sumika Chauhan. Her research focuses on optimization, filter design, fault diagnosis of mechanical components, vibration and acoustic signal processing, identification and measurement, fault prediction, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

The dynamic research environment and ambitious vision of REFRESH also motivated Govind Vashishtha to join. “Given my experience in signal processing, machine learning, and fault diagnostics, Signal Lab offers an ideal environment for collaboration. I am particularly looking forward to working alongside such a talented team and contributing to technological progress that can have a real impact,” said Govind Vashishtha, whose work focuses primarily on the diagnostics of mechanical component failures, vibration and acoustic signal processing, identification and measurement, failure prediction, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Govind Vashishtha earned his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering in 2022 from the Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology in Longowal, India. He is the author of more than 100 research articles published in SCI-indexed journals, as well as one book, and has edited another publication. From 2023 to 2025, he was ranked among the top 2 percent of the world’s most cited scientists according to Stanford University’s ranking. He serves as an associate editor for the journals Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering, Measurement, and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence. He also holds one patent. His h-index is 34, and his work has received more than 3,100 citations.

Sumika Chauhan earned her Ph.D. in electrical and instrumentation engineering in 2023 from the Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology in Longowal, India. She is the author of more than 70 articles published in journals indexed in the SCI database, and in 2025 she was ranked among the top 2 percent of the world’s most cited researchers according to Stanford University’s ranking. She serves as an associate editor for the journals Measurement: Sensors, Measurement, and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence. Her h-index stands at 29, and her work has been cited more than 2,000 times.
