VSB-TUO successfully maintains its position in the prestigious QS World University Rankings

VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (VSB-TUO) once again ranks among the top 1,500 universities globally. In the QS World University Rankings 2025, which evaluated a record 5,633 universities from 106 countries, VSB-TUO secured a position in the shared 1001st to 1200th range, consistent with last year’s ranking. Alongside the University of Hradec Králové, it stands tenth among the 16 Czech universities included in the list.

The QS methodology is based on nine key indicators. Academic Reputation holds the highest weighting at 30%, followed by the Citations per Faculty at 20%, Employer Reputation at 15%, and the Faculty Student Ratio at 10%. The indicators for Employment Outcomes, International Faculty Ratio, International Research Network, International Student Ratio, and Sustainability each carry a weight of 5%.

“The QS World University Rankings are among the top three most prestigious international university comparisons. Although VSB-TUO has maintained its overall position from the previous year, it has notably improved in the category of International Students, achieving its best position of 442nd among all nine indicators. We also saw improvements in other indicators, but these did not affect the overall ranking,” said Kateřina Angus, International Evaluation and Rankings Officer at VSB-TUO.

In the domestic comparison, the University excels in the category of Employer Reputation, ranking sixth out of 16 Czech universities. Globally, it remains in the 601+ bracket, the same as last year, although its score slightly improved from 10.3 to 10.5. Universities are ranked on this indicator based on feedback from the QS Employer Survey questionnaires.

Nationally, VSB-TUO ranks seventh in Sustainability and eighth in International Students indicator. This ranking reflects the university’s success in attracting international students, including Slovak students, and highlights the internationalisation of the student experience. Compared to the previous year, the score in this category increased from 22 to 28.3.

In the 21st edition of the global ranking, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) retains its top position, as it has in previous years. Imperial College London follows closely in second place, with the University of Oxford in third. The top ten are predominantly occupied by universities from the US and UK, with ETH Zurich and the National University of Singapore rounding out the list in seventh and eighth positions, respectively. Among domestic universities, Charles University achieved the highest position at 246th, followed by Masaryk University at 408th, and Czech Technical University in Prague at 420th.
